Who we are
I am a Chartered Town Planner with over 17 years of experience working within Local Authorities, where I developed a deep understanding of the planning process from both sides of the table.
My journey into private planning consultancy began unexpectedly in 2017, when a personal project—renovating the retaining walls in my garden—resulted in a surprising planning enforcement letter. The Council deemed the work as requiring planning permission, despite my belief otherwise. Determined to resolve the issue, I prepared and submitted a planning application, ultimately securing consent and overturning the Council’s initial view that some of the work would need to be removed.
This experience opened my eyes to the challenges and frustrations faced by homeowners and businesses when navigating planning regulations. Inspired to make a difference, I decided to become an expert in retrospective planning applications, having spent years learning all about the intricacies of permitted development rights and retrospective planning applications.
Today, I am committed to helping others navigate what can often feel like an overwhelming and stressful process, using my expertise to guide clients towards successful outcomes with confidence and clarity.

My Background
I completed my degree in Town Planning in 2007 and became a Chartered Town Planner in 2015. My many years of inside Council experience working within Planning Departments equips me with a deep understanding of local policies, regulations, and the decision-making frameworks that Councils use to assess applications. This enables me to anticipate potential challenges and tailor submissions accordingly.
In addition, this background helps me craft arguments that resonate with council decision-makers, focusing on the most impactful issues such as material planning considerations and compliance with local plans. Overall, this experience allows me to approach retrospective planning applications with a strategic mindset, influencing decisions in line with how Councils work and reach decisions.
Additionally, my Council experience offers an insider’s perspective on how planning decisions are made, the weight given to different types of evidence, and how to address concerns raised by officers or councillors. This expertise is particularly beneficial for preparing robust planning applications and ensuring compliance with local development frameworks.
Our Approach
I take pride in achieving a high success rate of retrospective planning applications, having worked in cases such as changes of use, extensions, outbuidlings, fences, platforms and commercial developments to name a few.
